A man who is bold with movies like I am bold with books.

I feel like I'd seen the site before, but I spent a little time poking around the Criterion Contraption this evening. One man watching every movie in the Criterion Collection? Bold. The collection has almost 400 movies and counting. He had better pick up the pace, I'm afraid that they are releasing movies faster than he is watching them.
I'm also not sold on the write-ups. If I want the play by play, I'll rent the movie. What I look for in reviews are insights into the quality of the film and interesting series that I may overlook. On that note, some of the write-ups (like for the Third Man) get a little nit-picky in a way that turns me off.
That being said, I just watched Puddle Cruiser, aka the first movie that Broken Lizard, the genius behind Super Troopers*, made. Is it a good movie? No. I can see why it wasn't picked up for distribution: many of the jokes fall flat; the cuts can be a little erratic; Kevin Heffernan is almost thin; and the supporting actresses are mediocre. All that being said, this is very much a Broken Lizard production. You can see the same structures of jokes, just everything needs, well, maturing. This is a freshman effort and it shows. There are moments of pure comedy, and there are moments that lag behind. Two and a half stars out of five.
*Apparently, Super Troopers 2 is in the works! Needless to say, I am more excited than I was for Bio-Dome.

ST2 stinks of desperation, but I'll take it. Plus it looks like it'll be set in the 70s, which was their original plan for the first one. So I'm sure they have some jokes in storage.
And yeah, Puddle Cruiser doesn't put the pieces together.
