Moving to Purity
3.09.2011
In the far reaches of man's history as hunter and gatherers, man would set up camp and scrounge for whatever meager foods they could find. And then they would, quite literally, shit where they ate. For pre-historic man, moving was a way to stay one step ahead of the diseases and parasites that festered in their waste.
Modern man moves for their own reasons, but in our most recent move, we purified as much as we could from our closets, dressers, and deep storage. Of course, purity wasn't so much of a driving force as monetary savings, but now that we're settling in to our new apartment with a breath of fresh life.
Like all moves, this one had its many moments of suffering. The most inner of suffering may have come on moving day as I watched our two movers of historically oppressed ethnicities hauling our 29 boxes of books up to our new fourth floor walk-up. #whitewhine?
