As much as I've been a lover of music for most of my life, it hasn't always loved me back. And by that, I mean that, my parents bought me a flute when I was in 6th grade and there were no "once, when I was in band camp..." moments. I was just bad. And I didn't have the discipline to practice, so I couldn't even fake it when recital time rolled around.

I think that my parents were just mad that I'd wasted their money buying a flute. They made me jion the school choir in retribution. I was the only boy out of the 25 members. Did you know that I was also a Boy Scout? Middle school was rough.

At any rate, like all teenage boys and grown-ass men, I vaguely dreamed that one day I would pick up a guitar, strum a few chords and reveal my musical genius through an album of awesome cover songs. This is that album:

Knowledge - Operation Ivy

Debaser - Pixies

Holland, 1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel

Black Steel - Tricky

Which Side Are You On - Pete Seeger

There is Power in a Union - Billy Bragg

You Ain't Going Nowhere - Bob Dylan

Me and my uncle - Grateful Dead

Spanish Bombs - The Clash

Communist Love Song Soltero

Ask - The Smiths

The River - Bruce Springsteen

Jolene - Dolly Parton

Fuck And Run - Liz Phair

No Children - The Mountain Goats

Drivin' On 9 - The Breeders

Angel From Montgomery - John Prine

Love Is Going to Let Me Down - Toots and the Maytals

Paradise - John Prine
